When dealing with medication therapy in everyday life, specific self-management skills are necessary. Promoting these skills from the nursing point of view it's important to know which strategies people use in everyday life. In the present study, a semi-structured survey was used to capture subjective strategies in handling prescribed medication in relation to the six steps of the medication self-management by Bailey et al. (2013). Key strategies for each step were determined and furthermore a new step was identified. The understanding of medication plays an important role. The findings provide important insights for counselling and further research projects.
